How we shoot it
Jewelry is the hardest category to shoot well. Reflective metal, tiny detail, and stones that have to sparkle without blowing out all fight the camera. Here is how we handle each one.
Gold, silver, and platinum act like mirrors. Point a light straight at them and you get blown-out hot spots, or you catch the studio and the camera in the reflection. We shape light with diffusion and carefully placed modifiers, working in controlled setups that decide exactly where each reflection lands.
The result shows the curve, weight, and shine of the metal without glare, and without the flat grey look that comes from over-diffusing it. Where a single frame cannot stay clean, our editors composite multiple exposures and remove any stray reflection by hand.
Jewelry lives in the details: prong settings, pave, engraving, hallmarks, and clasp mechanisms. At the magnification these need, most of the piece falls out of focus in a single shot.
We use focus stacking, capturing a series of frames focused at different depths and merging them into one image that is sharp from the nearest prong to the back of the setting. Craftsmanship that a phone photo would blur reads clearly, which is exactly what a buyer zooms in to check.
A diamond or gemstone has to look brilliant without looking blown out. We light stones to bring out their brilliance and fire while holding detail in the highlights, and we control facet reflections so the stone reads as clear and cut, not as a white flare.
Transparent and colored stones get lighting tuned to their material, so an emerald looks like an emerald and a diamond keeps its sparkle. The goal is a stone that looks as alive on screen as it does in the hand.
Metal tone and stone color are where accuracy matters most. A yellow gold that photographs too warm, or a sapphire that shifts toward purple, leads to returns and disputes.
We shoot and edit on a color-managed workflow, referencing a physical color target and checking every image on calibrated monitors. The gold, rose gold, and stone colors we deliver match the real piece, so your listing sets the right expectation and your customer gets what they saw.
Detail like this depends on the gear behind it. We shoot on a 32.5-megapixel full-frame camera that captures enough detail for a customer to zoom deep into a listing and still see a clean, sharp image. That resolution also means every photo crops and scales cleanly for any placement, from a small Amazon thumbnail to a full-screen hero.
Paired with a 100mm macro lens built for close-up work, we resolve the facets of a stone, the texture of a setting, and the finish of the metal at a level a standard camera and lens cannot reach. It is the difference between a photo that looks fine at a glance and one that holds up when a buyer inspects it up close.
